It's a hot afternoon. You’ve just come back home after being in the sun for a really long time. You're parched. You enter the house, throw away your belongings, head straight to the kitchen/refrigerator, and pour yourself a chilled-tall glass of water. The insides of your throat feel as dry as a box of chalk, so you gulp down that water in a single breath. Breathing does not matter at this minute. Your throat suddenly feels lubricated, almost as if you are experiencing having a new throat. So, you finally let out a sigh of relief! Ahh! What a blessing! No other feeling compares to this one! You think to yourself that no other beverage could ever provide the level of satisfaction you just experienced.
Water is "the" beverage. And the reason why no other drink can replace it is not just because it is neutral in flavour and doesn't leave an aftertaste. Water is the essence of life and is central to a better functioning body. Also known as H2O (chemical formula), water helps out by carrying out most of the metabolic reactions. It also helps in brain-body coordination. So, the consumption of water is not only beneficial for digestion but also better brain function.
Many bodily detox/fasting regimes suggest consuming all kinds of liquids (teas/infused water/soups). However, water is the only liquid (primarily) that helps in the process of detoxifying . To carry out this process, it needs to be stored in our bodies. Adding a pinch of mineral-rich salt like Pink Himalyan or Black salt or a squeeze of lemon helps with the process of water retention. It is important to store it not only for the purpose of detoxification but also because we lose a lot of water after activities like exercising, working all day long, after a good sleep, etc. Since water does not have stimulating effects on our bodies, it is perfect for when you are fasting.
There are various factors which determine the quantity of water you should consume, like age, temperature, health, and where you live. Most experts suggest that your ideal water consumption is your body weight divided by 10 and then divided by half, i.e., if your weight is 60 kilograms, then you get 6 after dividing it by 10, and the 6 divided by 2 is 3. So, the ideal quantity for you will be 3 litres. So, drink water and bring yourself closer to having a healthy body and mind.
