Shailputri: The Embodiment of New Beginnings
Born as the daughter of Shailraj Himalaya, Shailputri is worshipped on the first day of nine days of Navratri. Carrying a trident in her right hand and a blooming lotus in the left, she is carried by Nandi and is also known as Parvati. She is the reincarnation of Sati, created with the purpose to fulfil the role of the cosmic mother who nurtures all living things.

In her previous birth as Sati, she displayed the spirit of courage & sacrifice as she refused to tolerate the indignity her father Daksha expressed towards lord Shiva: the supreme being and her husband. Daksha refused to invite Lord Shiva and Sati to the Yagna he organised for gods but Sati, still attached to the love of her father, attended it only to find that she was un-welcomed in her own house. So, she sacrificed herself in fire at the insult Daksha caused to Lord Shiva and awakened as Adi-Shakti.

Her awakening as Adi-Shakti centres around the idea of the immense power of self realisation. She demonstrates the importance of standing up for indignity & mistreatment. Sati in her next birth was born as Goddess Shailputri (daughter of Mountain). After being reincarnated as Shailputri or Parvati, she continued to fulfil her destiny to become the ideal helpmate to the supreme being Shiva. Shailputri is the representation of revival and her birth as the daughter of mountain signifies stability. She symbolises new beginnings as she is one of the first incarnations of Goddess Durga and is worshipped on the first day of Navratri to attain prosperity and peace.
