Chandraghanta: The Essence of Companionship and Harmony
This incarnation of Goddess Durga represents Parvati (Shakti) as the ideal other half of Lord Shiva. Worshipped on the third day of Navratri, Goddess Chandraghanta possesses a golden complexion and three eyes.  She is carried by a lion or tiger, she is depicted as having ten arms. Her right arms contain the lotus flower, arrow, Dhanush, and Japa Mala, while her left palms hold Trishul, Gada, sword, and Kamandal. Her fifth left hand is in the Varada Mudra, and her fifth right hand is in the Abhaya Mudra. The goddess was given her name since she wears a Chandra (moon) in the shape of a bell on her forehead.

When the processions of  her wedding with Shiva are being carried out, he arrives in a terrifying form before her family, covered in ash and snakes, and accompanied by ghosts, Aghoris, sages, goblins, ghouls, and ascetics. To save Shiva from the discomfort her family displays at his appearance, she transforms herself into the striking form of Chandraghanta to match the appearance of her partner. While she accepts Shiva in every form, she refuses to leave Shiva alone in discomfort or embarrassment and communicates with Shiva by asking him to appear in a more welcoming form for the processions of their wedding.

Shiva in return fulfils her wish and appears in a noble form, adorned with jewels. Shiva and Parvati display the ideal characteristics of harmony and compatibility within a partnership or relationship. Both of them come halfway to help each other overcome the circumstances and establish the significance of compromise, understanding, reliability and equality within a relationship. While Shiva leads with action, examining the condition, Parvati balances them with her fluid & intuitive nature.

This occurrence in the companionship of Shiva and Shakti exemplifies the divine harmony of the Masculine and Feminine energies.
