Detoxing Your Way Through Balance (Part 1)
Does detoxing mean having a glass of water with lemon in it? Or a cup of herbal tea? Or perhaps, maybe going on a trip? Sure, it may work for many of us! Nature becomes a great source of energy every time our body and/or mind requires cleansing and healing. The word ‘detox’ always leads us to the idea of returning & restricting. Returning to the roots, the core of our essence and the connection we share with the environment around and within us. Doing what feels the most natural to being a human. Restricting what brought us to the brink of the situation which only a detox could help with.

Creating such a system feels necessary in a time which rewards being excessively productive, the constant urge to indulge and the pressure to fit into the conventional norms of what it means to have your life ‘together’. But, is detox limited to a singular activity? Do we need a day apart from our schedule? Or logging off from social media? Cutting off carbohydrates and sugar from our meals? Or a focused self care routine? Sometimes, we do! But often what feels flexible is including smaller everyday habits which bring a sense of balance, the balance between the sublime detox and the mundane of behaving in a manner which doesn’t necessarily align with what we truly want but is required out of duty or norm. To create such a system, it requires seeking deeper knowledge of thoughts and habits we can adapt in the longer run.
What am I seeking?
I am seeking whether there is more to what I can do, who I can be, how I can contribute to what is around me. Seeking often becomes a very minute version of self discovery in a detox, leading to questions.. or whether there is a better way to detox or to not at all. Seeking questions about ourselves and our actions then also turns into a tool to evaluate whether what we are doing is leading us towards fulfillment.

When it comes to the idea of ‘returning’ in detox, I rely on turning inwards, to the essence of my core..to my femininity. Returning to my feminine energy feels essential while detoxing. The feminine energy within ‘me’ is fluid, open, intuitive, led by creative desire, warm, and nurturing. Often the nature of the world requires me to be calculative, restricted and invulnerable, and while these elements are necessary for survival and steadiness, I feel the need to go in a different direction for detoxing.
 What do I do?
I do what is required of me but once in a while I also allow myself to have space to do what feels the most natural to me. Often it is cooking, nourishing myself and my family by cooking an elaborate meal. As good as viewing food as ‘fuel’ sounds (and is often necessary), there are times when I want to ‘detox’ from thinking of food as ‘fuel’ only. The good part is that this ‘elaborate’ meal does not have to be inherently unhealthy. It can be something as simple as three varieties of vegetables instead of two or maybe having a different cuisine. Sometimes I grab my pen and freehand a sketch, not caring about its symmetry, let my creativity lead me instead of trying too hard to not colour outside the lines..I let it be.
